Inventory Help in Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School
Press Tab to open the default mouse-and-keyboard inventory in the Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School Demo. A red question mark where the key icon should be is an icon-loading fallback, according to the developer; it does not mean that the inventory has no assigned key. If you changed your bindings, check your assigned inventory action instead.

If the inventory prompt shows a question mark
- With normal gameplay focused, try the default Tab key.
- If you have rebound controls, inspect your mouse-and-keyboard bindings for the inventory action and use that assignment.
- Check whether the item list opens. An inventory that opens despite a missing icon is a different problem from a missing quest item.
Freezman identified the fallback icon in a March 15 reply and asked about Windows language, game language and keyboard layout. If Tab still does nothing, include those details and your actual binding in a report. The reply does not establish a universal icon-repair command.
Duplicate books do not establish a six-item limit
A May player continued an older Demo save and found duplicate books, a snack and Red Herrings taking up visible spaces. The developer explained that inventory capacity expands when needed, so the duplicate books should not by themselves block progress through a fixed six-slot cap.
This is a dated explanation of that save-migration report, not a promise that all inventory bugs are harmless. If the required item is present, continue checking the relevant quest rather than deleting progress solely to free visible slots.
The same May reply described the old Demo’s ending wipe. October’s update later removed that wipe; use the save-version comparison before applying old advice to a newer copy.
Separate a full-looking list from actual item loss
| What you see | Useful next check |
|---|---|
| Red question-mark key icon | Try Tab or your configured inventory binding; record language/layout if it fails. |
| Duplicate books after an older save | Check whether the required item and quest still work; the developer says capacity expands. |
| A required item is absent after loading | Preserve the save and record the quest, item, build and whether this was online co-op. No recovery procedure is verified here. |
An April co-op item-loss report and an internally addressed bug do not prove that your missing item can be restored by restarting, buying duplicates or changing graphics settings.
Check the actual obstacle
You can open the item list and distinguish a missing key icon, old duplicate items and genuinely absent quest items. Use the quest journal next if you need to identify which item or objective you are trying to complete.
